BAPTISM
Baptism is the Sacrament that makes us a child of God. It is through the celebration of this Sacrament that we are incorporated into the family of faith. Through it, the door to the other Sacraments can be received and celebrated. Our parish welcomes and assists anybody who is desiring this Sacrament, either for their children, or for themselves.
Why do we Baptize?
Baptismal Guidelines
FOR INFANT BAPTISM (Up to 6 years age) | it is expected that the children who will be baptized will be raised into faith, first and foremost by their parents, with the help of godparents, and assisted lovingly by our community. It is hoped that the parents have celebrated the Sacrament of Matrimony in the Church, or, are already working with a priest towards its celebration. The Godparents must also have celebrated the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Communion and Confirmation). if the Godparents are married, it should have been celebrated in the Church.
GODPARENTS RESPONSIBILITIES/REQUIREMENTS | The Godparents assist the parents in the formation of their child’s faith development. As such, they profess, proclaim, and model the Catholic Christian way of life. For this reason, when selecting godparents, the requirements are:
1.
At least 17 years of age and received Baptism, First Eucharist and Confirmation
2.
At least one must be a Catholic godparent who is a practicing, confirmed catholic, participating in Sunday liturgies, and willing to share the faith with their godchild. However, together with a Catholic godparent AND for a sufficient reason, a baptized non-Catholic may act as a “Christian witness” to the baptism. If the godparent is married, the marriage must have been performed in the Catholic Church.
3.
Must attend one of the preparation classes given by the church.
